a quick word on "river city" and patience

Good morning Blacklions family and Happy Monday!

With COMPTUEX in full-swing, I wanted to take a moment to talk about "River City." Periodically, the ship will shut down or limit communication during the deployment in order to maintain mission security. These periods of limited communication can happen suddenly and often without warning, and families will find themselves unable to contact their Sailor during this period. River City is not a cause for concern, it is just the best way for our Sailors to stay safe.  I understand that this can be incredibly frustrating at times, but the best thing that you can do is to stay patient and to keep yourself distracted with work, kids, a hobby, or spending time with friends. River City does not mean that you won't be able to email your Sailor. You can still email them. Once communications reopen, your Sailor should be able to read and respond to the emails that you sent previously. In the event of an emergency where you need to contact your Sailor, contact your Ombudsman. The Ombudsman maintains an open line of communication with the command triad, but these lines of communications are reserved for emergencies. River City will be simulated during COMPTUEX. There will be periods where you may not be able to contact your Sailor because River City is in effect; but this is NOT a cause for concern.

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to contact your Ombudsman using the Contact Information provided on the "Contact Your Ombuds" page.
